the new Mercedes E-Class

Because this is NOT the new Mercedes E-Class

The sketches you see are related to the long wheelbase C-Class sold in China. Here are the differences with the future E-Class

The countdown continues for the new Mercedes E-Class . The German sedan will be completely renewed in the course of 2023 and, after the spy photos of the past months, it is time for the first sketches. Indeed, no.

In the last few hours some images have been published on the web that seem to be in effect the technical drawings of the new E-Class. Yet, some details make it clear that it is a C-Class LWB, a long wheelbase version sold on the Chinese market. .

Differences under the microscope:

To understand the differences, you have to compare the sketches with the most recent spy photos of the real E-Class. The most obvious one concerns the door handles which on the sketches have a classic shape, while on the prototype photographed at the Nurburgring they are of the pop-out type ( i.e. they are flush with the bodywork).

Furthermore, the grille of the C-Class has a significantly different shape from the present (albeit camouflaged) one of the E-Class. Other important differences concern the design of the rear lights and, above all, the rear window line which on the larger sedan has an almost coupé, while on the C-Class it has a classic style.

The possible engines:

  1. The next E-Class , however, will most likely be the last generation to be equipped with thermal engines . The range should consist of 2-liter four-cylinder and 3-liter six-cylinder electrified engines in mild hybrid form at 48 V. In the list we will also find plug-in hybrid variants (with electric mileage close to or greater than 100 km).
  2. Finally, at a later time we should also see the sports versions AMG 53 and 63. These too could be plug-in, with a powertrain inherited from the AMG C-Class , but even more powerful.
  3. In fact, the 2.0 4-cylinder M139 (the same as the A 45 AMG) combined with a 204 HP rear electric motor is expected on the “younger sister”. In total, a power of close to 680 hp is expected to be delivered on the four-wheel drive. Probably, the future E-Class AMG will break through 700 hp.
